Take the enthusiasm of Science! and Crow Left of the Murder, add in the musical talent collected over years of touring, recording, Harvard, etc, and you end up with the best album Incubus has ever made. It’s so clearly Incubus; no one else could make this sound. Too bad its only an EP.

Not trying to be a contrarian nerd but, musically rather than viscerally, this is far inferior to their earlier work. There so much about this that isn’t the essence of what Incubus was I could write a book on it. The worst part is the utter lack of intensity variability (in the musical theory definition of intensity) which makes it modernly noisy. It’s a really just a band wanting to go back to their punk roots while incorporating that new interference noise sound that all these new shitty hipster bands put out. While still certainly not their worst work it doesn’t come close to songs like Warning, Pardon Me and Mexico which were , well, stellar.

Thank you for posting this. I’ve always really liked incubus but haven’t listened in a long time. I think they will be all I listen to tomorrow at work.
